Mystical forces permeate the land, here, permeate the beings that walk it, Strigiformes and Cervidae, owls and deer, night and day. Here, you can search for your Angra Mainyu, the other being that completes your essence and will accompany you till your end; you can battle with your kin against the perversions of the others; or you can simply wander the rich earth, find a lover, start a family. This is a realm of fascinating possibility.
Can you face it?

MIDWINTER!
The heavier snows of winter are finally beginning to fall, settling on even the warmest lands in thin blankets and covering the colder north regions. For the deer, foliage is sparse and must be dug out of the ground, and for owls, rodents and other game are just as rare, frequently hiding in their burrows underground. Many species of deer are losing their antlers for the winter, and recovering from any injuries of fall's rut season.

Go here to learn all about the world of Elaphus Tyton and its creatures, and to learn about our forum rules. And, of course, how to join! Basically, this should be your first stop.
One of the oldest, if not THE oldest, herds on Elaphus Tyton, the Fleetwater Tribe is also one of the least hierarchically organized. They have a Chieftain or Chieftess, to make important decisions and adjudicate in any arguments that arise among herd members, and this position is usually elected by the herd at large, though passing the title down to children has been known. Other than this, the main formation of the Fleetwater Tribe is the Druid class. These peaceful does and stags perform the rituals and ceremonies of the Cerviformes, mythical beings somewhere between deer and owls which are said to inhabit sacred parts of the landscape. They also perform the celebratory officiations when an Angra Mainyu pairing is recognized--this is one of the most holy events in their world. Fleetwaters rarely fight, save in self-defense.
Clan Orpheus is far more solemn than their older brethren in Fleetwater, and far more inclined to fierceness. A bastion of the strong, proud, and independent minded, they still form and honor the Angra Mainyu bond, but some within their ranks dissent. Those ranks are well-ordered, with a strictly patrilineal royal family, a commander of the military, a separate force of specially trained sentries, and advisors whose sole role is to collect knowledge and information, both about the current land and about its history, and share it with the royal family as requested. Perhaps one of the most unique facets of Clan Orpheus is their tradition of sending young bucks out on an ordeal when they come of age. If they do not succeed, they are not allowed to mate that year.
Owls in the Moonshadow flock tend towards the quiet side, and even towards solitude, though they still organize when necessary for their flock. A contemplative group of scholars, thinkers, and those who love wisdom, they aim most of their studies at the supernatural forces of Elaphus Tyton, including both Cerviformes and Angra Mainyu. They are led by an elected pair of owls, though these owls are not necessarily mated; the Regent and Baroness are elected, not by the flock at large, but by a small group of Viziers, who are usually chosen from among the oldest of the population, though sometimes a younger owl may be put forward.
For night-dwellers, these owls are surprisingly vivacious. Though their title is military, their ranks are quite varied; they have many ferocious warriors, but they also have poets, air-dancers, and, of course, singers. The Brightquill owls are famous for their singing, whether it's harmonizing over a new Angra Mainyu pair or providing a frightening chant for their forces in battle. They have a full arrangement of military ranks, and the Caliph is usually the strongest, fiercest, or most charismatic owl. He or she can and often is overthrown at an older age by a young upstart within the ranks.
The Screech don't call themselves The Screech, and don't let Strega Scura hear you using that term. She prefers The Rebels. But this group is a fairly new formation, and the title their enemies gave them--when not calling them "The Soulless," simply stuck. Founded by Strega Scura, The Screech is the first group dedicated to wiping out the perversion of unnatural bonding between species, known as Angra Mainyu throughout the land. Strega is currently still powerful enough to hold way over the group without much structured administration, and is known only as The Leader, though it is expected that one of her children will take her place when--some whisper "if"--she dies. All members of The Screech are expected to be ready and willing to participate in battle, and so the main ranking system is that of her complicated network of spies, sentries, and scouts.
Seeding out in all directions this land speaks of the darkness and evils that lie in the world. Though the ground is still green and fertile every tree in this entire wood has had the life sucked directly out of it. The bark on each tree is falling off, the branches are nothing more than twigs, and the inside of every tree has been hollowed out. One would think that bugs and beetles would be crawling over the Earth, but neither bug, leaf, nor animal can stay here too long before slowly withering away and dying. Or at least loosing their minds. The Dead Wood is avoided by everyone and for good reason.
Quite a beautiful place. Though the waters here seem to never still, weather it be wind or creatures slipping beneath the surface. Life fills this area, whether it be the birds that collect in the trees and on the shore of the lake, or the deer an other similar creatures. This lake is quite large, its open space stretching a good couple miles of open water, only obscured by islands that sprout here and there throughout the lake, and most of them are like the marsh, where the water covers most of the land but reeds and grasses sprout up from under the water where its more shallow. This place is quite peaceful in its own way despite the activity given to it.
The highlands are merely a series of rocky hills that are covered in scattered trees. Though there are many open patches where the trees thin and turn into wide open spaces. The slopes of the hills here are difficult to climb, at least, for many predators. These highlands however look out over the lands, as if here you can see everything that lay upon the land. Its the highest point anyone can get save for the mountains themselves. This place is very very green, and beautiful, and wild rose wines tend to creep up some of the larger trees.
A vast open space covered in grasses and scattered trees. The trees located within this wide open space are rather small, seeming as if the lack of company has stunted their growth, but they remain, however, and every spring bloom pretty little white flowers. Winter here seemed to swallow up the lush vegetation, creating a wasteland of dull life in this normally pretty place. Running east of this meadow which stretches quite far in length, is a small portion of the Nykona Stream. The slow moving stream seems to add sound and a beautiful ambiance to this rather soothing place.
A slow moving water source surrounded by a gathering of small thin trees. The waters within the shallow stream are crystal clear, and beneath the clear waters lay stones of every color imaginable. These stones are vibrant in color, bright and are set on fire by the light of the sun. The stones themselves seem to glitter beneath the waters as if alive as light touches them. Many have become mesmerized by these colorful stones, as if the life around you seeps away into nothing and all thats left is the stones. Its not wise to linger for long periods without some sort of distraction, at least, not by these waters.
What gave these woods their name is the amount of ravens that actually collect here. Most of the time they can be found in the trees, high in the canopy. These forests however lack the traditional fur tree and are abundant with Sycamore trees. their branches seem to dive into the branches of the next tree creating a network of highways for creatures that make their homes here. These trees are so thick in some places that its fairly difficult for those with wings to break through. Many have gotten caught in their branches, so caution here would be wise.
A very high rocky waterfall. These falls reach about ten stories high with flat rocks that jut out along the way up. The waters that fall are quite dangerous if caught under them, but beautiful as the water rushes down. Behind this massive waterfall is a cavern that dives deep into the rocks. Its a damp place but as you explore deeper into the caves it becomes dry, and quite dark. Inside this waterfall, however, deep underground, lies a pool of crystal clear waters that seem to set the cavern alive with light. Its a very peaceful place to venture and many a wanderer has come here when the world outside has become harsh.
A vast forest that stretches across most of Elaphus Tyton. These forests are unlike the wooded areas of the free lands. Ivy crawls up these trees, and ferns litter the forest floor with green and yellow. The trees that are located here are a mix of fur and Ponderosa trees, as well as mimosa flowers sprouting out of the woodwork. Its lively in the morning and after noon but once twilight hits it becomes a quiet and golden haven. These forests are mostly flat, but much of this place more towards the eastern borders cover rolling hills and cliffs.
The waters of the marsh are fairly shallow allowing the deer to walk without hindrance. Even the smaller species can at least wander a ways out before it deepens. The reeds and marsh grasses farther into this open area grow very tall, easily concealing the larger creatures where they are chest deep in water. Many different species of small birds flutter about here, landing on dead pieces of thin branches of trees that no longer exist here. These branches are not in the least bit strong, and fairly brittle. The weight of owls wouldn't hold them. This marsh is pretty much made for only deer.
A vast mountain range that covers most of the norther half of the lands. These mountains are usually always snow capped, even in the heat of a dry summer. Many believe that one of the high peaks of these mountains are a dormant volcano, but there has been no proof for centuries. The mountains themselves are beautiful but very steep and very dangerous unless one has very good climbing abilities. There is an unmarked pathway that leads to the top, where the ground is a little less steep and the rocks are a little wider for better purchase.
The waters here are not as clean as those of the Marsh, and there is definitely a foul stench in certain places where trees have rotted clear through. There are many trees that are scattered here, rooted deep within the waters. Though they seem dull in color as if the murky waters have stolen their essence. Most of the banks here are pretty much muddy, or at least damp in some way. The waters themselves seem to allow nothing in this area to dry out.
This beach lies south of the lands, and is cut off on both east and west by the mountains that cradle the lands. The beaches waters are gray and cold in appearance with just the smallest hint of blue, and the sands are white, with speckles of black and brown. The sight is fairly pretty in a way, but when the clouds roll in, its landscape turns very depressing and ominous.
